Designing with greenery
The selection of tree species in Luigi Trezza's design for the Garden of Pojega reflects a sophisticated balance between nature and symbolism, emphasizing the dialogue between the pictorial and the geometric. This harmony seamlessly integrates elements of the formal Italian garden with the picturesque English garden, foreshadowing European trends of the 19th century.
In the picturesque section, tall trees with dense canopies create a sort of intricate woodland, a Dantean symbol of life's challenges. Among the Forest's branches, sculptures of wild beasts emerge, representing the arduous path one must navigate. This journey gradually leads toward the garden's perspectival section, where geometry prevails with low, orderly plantings, symbolizing the attainment of "paradise."
The Garden of Pojega thus becomes a living narrative, a place where nature tells the timeless story of the tension between chaos and order, between challenge and harmony.
